Palo santo is a tree that’s native to Peru and Ecuador. It grows in dry tropical forests and produces very fragrant resin. The name palo santo means “holy" or "Sacred" wood. For thousands of years, the wood, resin, and oil have been used for medicinal and spiritual purposes by indigenous peoples. It is used to treat pain and stress as well clearing negative energy.

The Bursera graveolens variety of Palo Santo has a warm, sensual, woody base with uplifting citrus notes and is believed to calm the body’s immune and nervous systems, quiet the mind and enhance creativity.

Scent is one of the most primal and powerful of all the senses; it's the sense that is most closely linked with memory and emotion as well as playing major role in the control of  behaviour and mood.

Healing on physical, emotional and spiritual levels, smoke cleansing:

  • enhances awareness and mindful connection
  • produces negative ions which are linked with positively improving mood
  • increases energy through regulation of serotonin
  • improves sleep
  • the negative ions released are also believed to cleanse the air of impurities and bacteria

To cleanse with smoke, light the Palo Santo with a match or a lit candle, holding the base of your Palo Santo place the top end over the flame at a 45 degree angle. Allow to burn for 30 seconds or so, gently blow out the flame (being mindful of any embers) and allow the smoke to permeate the space by moving the stick in circular motions, wafting the smoke around you or your environment.

Sustainability: Our Palo Santo  are sustainably harvested from fallen lumber which has been aged for 4-7 years by a small independent supplier who supports reforestation and sustainable livelihood programmes.
